Sam Fender has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which functions to save the Britain's independent music venues.
He was awarded the award on 16 October as his new release his work was named the top album of the past year.
Fender has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots had in his early career.
"As an artist would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are facing challenges."
Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.
Over the past year, well-known musicians like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.
Fender also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous local spots across Britain.
These funds supported locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to issues arising from floods, fires and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and noise complaints.
Additional spaces obtained monetary aid in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.
"The idea that funds from concerts in big venues supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has commented.
The musician is far from the only musician to give his award winnings to good deeds.
When they earned the award in the mid-90s for their release the album, vocalist Jarvis Cocker declared that the group would contribute their prize money to the charity War Child.
During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite split her award between a few charities, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.
"I also gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they required updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.
Two years ago, the band donated their prize money to the local youth club that developed their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.
And the 1994 recipients M People gave their winnings to a MS organization after a friend was found to have the condition.
"Winning was quite enough," said vocalist Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success impacted somebody else's life."
Last week, the MVT revealed it had protected two grassroots venues in that region, by bringing them into local control.
The first in that area and the second in that location were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "ownership units" in the properties.
